During high-load periods, the open ledger cost can temporarily increase fees by 10x–100x. For mission-critical transactions, consider setting your fee to 50–100 drops to ensure fast inclusion even during congestion events.
Developer Note
Most XRPL client libraries (xrpl.js, xrpl-py) auto-fill fees based on current network state. You can set a fee_mult_max parameter to cap the maximum fee you are willing to pay. Always query the fee API method rather than hardcoding 10 drops, as validator votes may adjust the base fee over time.
